Forward joining Carolina on emergency conditions
RALEIGH, NC – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled forward Zach Boychuk on an emergency basis from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL).
This marks the second NHL recall this season for Boychuk, 21, who notched three goals and two assists (5 points), while skating in each of Carolina’s 16 games during his first NHL stint this season from Dec. 18-Jan. 18. The Airdrie, Alb., ranks tied for second among Checkers skaters with 39 points (15g, 24a), despite playing in just 31 of the team’s 46 games. Boychuk (5’10”, 185 lbs.) is in his second full professional season, and has scored six goals and earned eight assists (14 points) in 49 career NHL games with the Hurricanes. Carolina drafted Boychuk in the first round, 14th overall, in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
