Program’s goal to raise $25,000 for Zach Bennett
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte Checkers today announced “Facebook Fandemonium 2,” an online fundraising initiative with the goal of raising $25,000 for Zach Bennett and his family.
For every new ‘like’ the Checkers get on their Facebook fan page, the team will donate $2 to the Bennetts, up to $25,000, as they continue to gather the resources needed to move to Charlotte.
Zach is a 10-year-old boy from Albany, N.Y. who suffers from neurofibromatosis (NF1). As former season ticket holders of the Albany River Rats, the Bennett family has established close relationships with many current Checkers players and is looking to relocate to the Queen City for better medical care.
In addition to the donation, if the Checkers’ fan page reaches 25,000 people by Apr. 1, the team will offer a free ticket to its followers for the Apr. 4 game against the Norfolk Admirals. The official count at the start of the promotion this morning is 17,170.
Last season, more than 10,000 fans took part in the Checkers’ first Facebook promotion, which offered a free ticket to one of the last games in the team’s ECHL history.
