CHECKERS TO BE SHOWCASED ON ESPN

Watch party/Fan Fest scheduled for Tuesday at Pavilion at EpiCentre

CHARLOTTE, N.C.—The Charlotte Checkers announced today that the organization, several of its players and new Charlotte residents Zach, Jenna, Randy and Danielle Bennett will be featured on ESPN’s weekly investigative newsmagazine show E:60. The piece will air during Tuesday’s season finale at 7 p.m. on ESPN.

It was announced in April that the Checkers, with the help of sponsors, donations and fan support, were able to purchase a home for Zach and his family and they have relocated to Charlotte from Albany, N.Y. for better medical care and to be closer to the team.

In conjunction with the show, the Checkers will be hosting a viewing party and Fan Fest at the Pavilion at EpiCentre (210 East Trade Street, top floor) in Uptown Charlotte from 6:30 – 10 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10. There will be raffle prizes, giveaways and a special screening of E:60 at 7 p.m. in the Biergarten at EpiCentre.  All ages are welcome.

In attendance will be Checkers players, staff members, CheckMates, Chubby and the Bennett family.

The Checkers are in action tonight against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in Game 5 of the East Division Finals and currently hold a 3-1 series lead. Game time is 7 p.m. and tickets are available at www.Ticketmaster.com or the Time Warner Cable Arena box office.

Mitch Beck was a standup comedian and radio personality for over 25 years. His passion for hockey started with Team USA in 1980 when they defeated the Soviets at Lake Placid. He has also worked in hockey as a coach and administrator. He also works for USA Hockey as a Coach Developer. Mitch has been reporting on the New York Rangers, and exclusively on the Hartford Wolf Pack since 2005.
