SIGNINGS IN GREENVILLE

Greenville Road WarriorsGREENVILLE, SC The Greenville Road Warriors announced today that they have re-signed last season’s captain, T.J. Reynolds, and former ECHL All-Star Matt Schepke.

Reynolds, 30, returns after patrolling the Road Warriors’ blue line for 71 games last season. In the 2010-11 campaign, Reynolds led the Road Warriors with 206 penalty minutes, 12 major penalties, and 46 minor penalties. His penalty minutes and minor penalties totals were also most among all ECHL defensemen while the 12 majors were fourth. Reynolds also had a productive year points-wise as his 14 assists were the second most of his career and third most among Road Warriors defensemen. He is entering his 10th season of professional hockey and qualifies as a veteran under ECHL rules because he has played in 475 professional games. ECHL teams can have no more than four non-goalie veterans (260 or more regular season professional games) on their roster.

“Bringing T.J. back is very important for the Road Warriors. His experience, leadership, and toughness will be a huge asset for us this season,” said Road Warriors head coach Dean Stork.

Schepke, 26, will be suiting up for his third professional season – second in Greenville. Injuries limited Schepke to 15 games with the Road Warriors in 2010-11. In that time, though, he was able to rack up 12 points on five goals and seven assists. The former Michigan State Spartan also played four games with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League. As a rookie in 2009-10 with the ECHL’s Charlotte Checkers Schepke netted 46 points (26G, 20A) in 69 games which earned him a spot in the ECHL All-Star Game in Ontario, California, and helped Charlotte finish with the Eastern Conference’s best record.

“We are looking for good things out of Matt this year. He has the ability to be a point-per-game player in this league, and it’s exciting to add that type of ability to our line up,” said Stork.

Schepke and Reynolds were responsible for the first and final goals of the Road Warriors’ inaugural season in 2010-11. Schepke netted a goal at 19:23 of the first period against Florida on October 21, 2010 for the first goal in Road Warriors history. Reynolds scored his lone goal of the season with 17 seconds left in the third period of a 7-2 win over the Gwinnett Gladiators on April 2, 2011.
