TOMORROW’S GAME

The Rangers play their 34th game of the 2017-18 season tomorrow, Dec. 19, against the Anaheim Ducks at Madison Square Garden (7:00 p.m. ET – TV: MSG Network; Radio: ESPN 98.7 FM). KING HENRIK

In his last 11 home appearances (since Oct. 31), Henrik Lundqvist has posted a 10-0-0 record, along with a 2.22 GAA, a .927 SV%, and 1 SO. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Lundqvist is one of two goaltenders in Rangers history who have posted a 10-game home winning streak (Dave Kerr – 14 games from Dec. 19, 1939 – Feb. 25, 1940). Over the last month (since Nov. 19 vs. Ottawa), Lundqvist has posted an 8-2-0 record, along with a 2.12 GAA, a .934 SV%, and 1 SO in 11 appearances. Lundqvist has posted a 14-4-0 record, along with a 2.43 GAA, a .926 SV%, and 1 SO in 19 appearances since Oct. 31, and he is tied for the NHL lead in wins over the span. He enters the contest with 421 career NHL wins, and he is two wins away from tying Tony Esposito for eighth place on the NHL’s all-time wins list.

40/40 CLUB

Ondrej Pavelec has made at least 40 saves in each of his last two appearances (Dec. 5 at Pittsburgh and Dec. 11 vs. Dallas). He made a season-high 44 saves and was selected as the game’s First Star in his last appearance on Dec. 11 vs. Dallas. Pavelec is the first Rangers goaltender who has made 40 or more saves in two consecutive appearances since Dan Blackburn in 2001-02. He has stopped 85 of 89 shots he has faced over his last two appearances (.955 SV%).

UP FOR GRABS

Michael Grabner ranks third in the NHL in even-strength goals this season (16), only trailing Nikita Kucherov (20) and Alex Ovechkin (17). Grabner is tied for eighth in the NHL – and leads the Rangers – in goals in 2017-18 (16), and he also leads the Rangers in plus/minus rating this season (plus-13). He is tied for the NHL lead in goals since Oct. 26 (15).

WELCOME MATS

Mats Zuccarello registered the game-winning goal in overtime on Dec. 16 at Boston. He has recorded two overtime goals this season, and he leads the Rangers with three game-winning goals. Zuccarello has tallied a point in 10 of the last 13 games (five goals, eight assists), and he has recorded 19 points (six goals, 13 assists) and a plus-13 rating in the last 21 contests.

CAPTAIN MAC

Ryan McDonagh enters the contest with a three-game assist/point streak (three assists). He ranks second among NHL defensemen in even strength assists this season (14), trailing only John Klingberg (16). McDonagh is one of five NHL defensemen who have registered at least 18 points and a plus-10 rating this season (Doughty, Hedman, Pietrangelo, and Sergachev).

  • Dec. 18, 1996 – Mark Messier registered his 15th shorthanded goal as a Ranger, establishing a franchise record for career shorthanded goals. In addition, Wayne Gretzky tallied three assists and Mike Richter stopped all 37 shots he faced as the Rangers defeated the Los Angeles Kings, 4-0, at MSG.
  • Dec. 19, 1939 – The Rangers began two franchise-record streaks – a 10-game winning streak and a 14-game home winning streak – by defeating the Montreal Canadiens, 5-2, at MSG. Dutch Hiller registered two goals, while brothers Mac Colville and Neil Colville each tallied a goal for the Blueshirts.
  • Dec. 19, 1993 – Mike Richter extended his unbeaten streak to 20 games (17-0-3 record), breaking the franchise record established by Dave Kerr during the 1939-40 season. Richter made 22 saves as the Rangers defeated Ottawa, 6-3, at MSG.
