SHELLEY: CUGLIETTA’S HAT-TRICK PROPELS RABBITS

BY: Mark Shelley, Greenville Swamp Rabbits

DULUTH, GA. – The Greenville Swamp Rabbits upended the Atlanta Gladiators behind Diego Cuglietta’s hat-trick to win 5-2 at Gas South Arena on Monday night.

The Gladiators took the opening lead of the game with a Greg Campbell goal just over eight minutes into the period before it was answered just over a minute later by Diego Cuglietta’s first of the season.

In the second, Cuglietta, again, found the back of the net as he batted the puck out of the air and past the Gladiators’ goaltender Chris Nell to take the 2-1 lead. At the 13:13 mark of the period, Dallas Gerads scored his second goal of the season to gain a 3-1 Greenville lead before being answered by Cody Sylvester’s fifth goal in as many games.

Just 3:21 into the third period, the Swamp Rabbits would strike on the power play with Cuglietta’s third of the game to take a 4-2 lead. A late-period breakaway led to the fifth Greenville goal as Quin Foreman scored in his Swamp Rabbits debut.

Greenville, now 3-6-0-0 with the victory, will return home to take on the South Carolina Stingrays on Friday night at Bon Secours Wellness Arena at 7:05 p.m.
