Tonight the Greenville Road Warriors face the second leg of their weekend three-in-three. They are headed back to the Low-Country to face off against the South Carolina Stingrays for the second time in as many days.
The Road Warriors (37-21-4, 78 pts.) visit South Carolina (33-24-5, 71 pts.) today for the 12th of 16 meetings between the clubs this season. Fans can follow the game watching on America One or listening at Greenvilleroadwarriors.com.
The Road Warriors are 9-2-0 against the Stingrays this season and 18-10-0 all-time in their history against South Carolina. The Road Warriors have won each of the last three games in the Battle of the Palmetto State starting with their trip to North Charleston on February 7. Tonight’s game is the third of seven between the Road Warriors and Stingrays in the month of March. Four of the seven are in North Charleston where the Road Warriors have won three times in five tries.
Who: Greenville Road Warriors at South Carolina Stingrays
What: Away Game #32, Season Game #63
When: 5:05 p.m.
Where: North Charleston Coliseum, 5001 Coliseum Dr., North Charleston, SC 29418
NOTEWORTHY:
The Road Warriors are averaging three goals per game since leading scorer Marc-Olivier Vallerand was called up to Rockford of the AHL. In two of the four games they’ve scored fewer than three.
Greenville holds the league’s best road power play at 26.3 percent. It is 8-for-27 (29.6%) in its last six road games. Road Warriors are 4-for-18 at SC this season and are 4-for-10 in their last two visits.
The Road Warriors’ magic number to clinch a Kelly Cup Playoffs berth is 8. Any combination of the 9th place team losing standings points and the Road Warriors gaining points will shrink the number.
Greenville has the 2nd most penalty minutes, 1,106, in the Eastern Conference while SC has the 5th fewest at 874.
Defenseman Jyri Niemi has six goals in his last nine games, two of which were game winners. He is fourth among league defensemen with three game winners for the season.
