The Greenville Road Warriors play their fourth game of a six-game season-opening home stand tonight against the South Carolina Stingrays at 7:05 p.m. ET at the BI-LO Center.
RECAPPING THE ACTION:
10/24: GRN-2 vs. S.C.-4
The Road Warriors looked to be in good position to take the first meeting of the season in the Palmetto State Rivalry as they grabbed a 2-0 lead on power play goals by Andrew Carroll. A tip-in goal by Carroll at 8:58 of the first period staked the Road Warriors to a 1-0 lead and it grew to 2-0 with Carroll slipping in a backhand goal at 3:27 of the second. South Carolina, however, scored four unanswered goals to pick up its first win of the season. Josh Godfrey and Maxime Lacroix netted markers in the second period leaving the game tied at two after 40 minutes of play. A fluke goal that was initially caught by Nic Riopel but dropped before play was stopped came courtesy of Nikita Kashirsky and proved to be the game winner. Matt Scherer added an empty-net goal with 27 seconds left to play to set the final.
WHAT’S ON TAP FOR TONIGHT:
It is expected that a goaltending rematch of Nic Riopel and Jared DiMichiel will take place tonight as each team has a goalie still on loan to an AHL affiliate. Greenville’s Dov Grumet-Morris remains in Hartford with the Wolf Pack while the Stingrays’ Todd Ford is up with the Hershey Bears. DiMichiel earned the win on October 24 with a 27-save performance while Riopel came up with 30 stops for the Road Warriors. Riopel has started each of the Road Warriors’ first three games and will eclipse the 200 minutes-played mark this evening.
The Road Warriors are not expecting newly acquired Chris Morehouse to be available for tonight’s game. According to the Road Warriors coaching staff he is traveling to Greenville today and could be available for Saturday’s game. Morehouse was picked up in a trade with the Cincinnati Cyclones in exchange for future considerations yesterday. He will be reunited with Head Coach Dean Stork who was an assistant coach during Morehouse’s rookie season last season in Cincinnati.
Three Road Warriors will be looking to extend point scoring streaks this evening. Andrew Carroll has notched three goals in his last two games and leads the team with three goals. With a one goal, one assist performance on Oct. 22 Carroll has four points in his last two games. Joining Carroll with point streaks are defenseman Brad Cole and forward Mark Voakes with two assists in their last two games. With two goals and two assists in his last two games Voakes is one of five Road Warriors with four points on the season.
