Defenseman has yet to make NHL season debut

Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled defenseman Brett Carson from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL). Carson is being recalled on an emergency basis for defenseman Joni Pitkanen, who has had to leave each of Carolina’s last two games due to an upper-body injury.

Carson, 24, has yet to make his 2010-11 NHL season debut. The Regina, Sask., native has played in seven AHL games with the Checkers this season, earning two assists. He was a healthy extra for Carolina’s two games against Minnesota in Helsinki, Finland, and again for four Hurricanes game during a recall from Oct. 16-24. Carson (6’4”, 210 lbs.) has played in 59 career NHL regular-season games with Carolina, scoring two goals and earning 10 assists (12 points). The Hurricanes drafted Carson in the fourth round, 109th overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft
