Charlotte Checkers CHECKERS ANNOUNCE PRESEASON HOME GAME OCT. 3
Event presented by Crosland; Home-and-home series to kick off East Division rivalry

The Charlotte Checkers announced today that they will host their closest rival, the Norfolk Admirals, for an exhibition game on Sunday, Oct. 3. The game will be the first ever American Hockey League contest in Charlotte.

The teams will square off at 1:30 p.m. at Extreme Ice Center in Indian Trail, N.C. Tickets are $12 for season ticket holders and $15 for the general public and can be purchased from Extreme Ice Center or Ticketmaster beginning Friday, Sept. 10. Extreme Ice Center has a maximum capacity of 1,000 and fans are encouraged to get their tickets as early as possible.

The home-and-home exhibition series will begin in Norfolk on Friday, Oct. 1 (7:30 p.m.) before moving to Charlotte Oct. 3. The Checkers will battle the Admirals, the AHL affiliate of the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning, 12 times throughout the regular season, more than any other opponent.

The Checkers’ home opener is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 15 at Time Warner Cable Arena. Season tickets for the inaugural 2010-11 AHL season are now on sale and season ticket packages start as low as $10 per game. Mitch Beck

Mitch Beck was a standup comedian and radio personality for over 25 years. His passion for hockey started with Team USA in 1980 when they defeated the Soviets at Lake Placid. He has also worked in hockey as a coach and administrator. He also works for USA Hockey as a Coach Developer. Mitch has been reporting on the New York Rangers, and exclusively on the Hartford Wolf Pack since 2005.
