Charlotte Checkers‘CANES RECALL DALPE AND SAMSON FROM CHARLOTTE

Team reassigns Zach Boychuk and Brett Sutter to AHL affiliate

RALEIGH, NCJim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled forwards Zac Dalpe and Jerome Samson from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL). The team also reassigned forwards Zach Boychuk and Brett Sutter to Charlotte.

Dalpe, 21, ranks first among Checkers skaters this season with a plus-8 plus/minus rating, and has 36 points (16g, 20a) in the AHL this season, despite playing in just 35 of Charlotte’s 53 games. The Paris, Ont., native began the season with Carolina, and has played in 14 games with the Hurricanes, scoring three goals and earning one assist (4 points). Dalpe (6’1”, 195 lbs.) is in his first full professional season after two years of collegiate hockey at Ohio State University in 2009-10. The Hurricanes drafted Dalpe in the second round, 45th overall, in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

Samson, 23, leads Checkers scorers this season with 26 goals and 54 points, and ranks tied for the team lead with 28 assists. The Greenfield Park, Que., native ranks first among all AHL skaters this season with 245 shots on goal, third in the AHL with 26 goals and fourth in the AHL with 54 points. Samson (6’0”, 195 lbs.) made his NHL debut with Carolina on Jan. 7, 2010, and earned two assists in seven games with the Hurricanes last season. Carolina signed Samson as a free agent on July 7, 2007.
