Today at the Danbury Ice Arena in Danbury, Connecticut, the Danbury Whalers and the Elmira Jackals announced an affiliation agreement between the two organizations.
The Jackals are member of the East Coast Hockey League (AA) and are affiliated on the NHL level with the Anaheim Ducks and Ottawa Senators. Through those affiliations the Jackals are in agreements with the American Hockey League (AAA) affiliates of those clubs, the Syracuse Crunch and the Binghamton Senators.
The affiliation agreement will focus on player development. Players will be sent from Elmira to Danbury and Danbury will also promote players to Elmira. Elmira General Manager, Robbie Nichols commented, “We look forward to working with the Danbury organization. Phil Esposito has been great to work with.”
Danbury Whalers Senior Partner / Team President Alan Friedman commented, “This is an exciting move for us. It raises the bar of the on ice product and gives our players a next step and goal to shoot for.”
Danbury Whalers Head Coach, Phil Esposito commented, “Working with Elmira is a great fit for us. We appreciate the opportunity and the confidence they have shown in our organization.”
Last season the Danbury Whalers sent Marty Moucha, Andrew Willock, Devin Guy, Peter Skoggard, and Leland Fidler to Elmira. This year in Alec Kirschner, Mike Sellito, and Paul Arnott are all in Elmira’s camp.
