GREENVILLE, S.C. — A longtime professional hockey player has joined the Greenville Swamp Rabbits’ offense. Tommy Mele, who has played 274 ECHL games, 51 CHL games, 30 games over in England, and 3 AHL games, has been added to the Rabbits’ active roster, effective immediately.

Mele, a Kelly Cup champion and Brabham Cup champion with the Alaska Aces and a CHL champion with the Fort Wayne Komets has seen his fair share of hockey action at a professional level since graduating from American International College in 2011. His pro career has seen him play with the Fort Wayne Komets, the Alaska Aces, the Tulsa Oilers, the Oklahoma City Barons, the Norfolk Admirals, the Cincinnati Cyclones, and the Milton Keynes Lightning.

In 274 games at the ECHL level, the native of the Bronx has posted 145 points (80 goals, 65 assists), and has taken part in 32 postseason contests, adding 12 more points.

Mele, 32, had his best professional season during the 2015–16 season when he split time with the Admirals and the Cyclones, and he posted 52 points in 74 games.

Tommy’s brother, Steve, is also a professional, currently playing with the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs of the Southern Professional Hockey League.

The Swamp Rabbits are in action tonight for a Halloween night tussle with the Norfolk Admirals at 7:00. Catch all of the action exclusively on ESPN Upstate, or on ECHL.TV.
