GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Greenville Swamp Rabbits saw their lead slip away in the third period as they fell to the Florida Everblades 5-4 on Saturday night at Bon Secours Wellness Arena.
Early in the first period, the Swamp Rabbits took a 1-0 lead with a Liam Pecararo goal before Max Zimmer lifted the puck into the back of the net from just outside the crease to increase the margin to 2-0. However, Florida responded with a pair of late-period goals from Blake Winiecki and John McCarron before Bobby Russell scored his second of the season to give Greenville a 3-2 advantage.
Zimmer would clean up a deflected Gavin Gould shot in the second to score his second of the game.
The third period began with the Everblades scoring on the power play from a Ben Masella shot from the point to bring Florida with a goal before Xavier Bouchard would tie the game just over a minute later. Beyond the midway point of the period, Dylan Vander Esch tipped in Levko Koper’s shot to score the game-winning goal.
Greenville will take to the road on Monday night for their second meeting of the season with the Atlanta Gladiators at 7:00 p.m.
